Play by Piper Lawson my first book by this very talented auther. Play is a at times quirky very hot story that manages to make a straight laced banker & a previously hurt almost single minded gamer work together towards a HEA. Enjoy Today!
Play Piper Lawson Author review 3.5 game maker, and game changer stars
Play is a fun read by Piper Lawson. This is my 3rd book from Ms Lawson, and once again I was happy to read and review for her. For main characters Payton Blake and Max Donovan their instant chemistry was almost laughable.
At 24 yrs old Payton works as an associate at alliance finance, living the dream... not! She works with best friend and firecracker Charlotte (Charlie) & is now working towards that bonus that will help her mum secure the condo she loves. But up against a jackass co-worker who believes he really is the top shit. Jack shit should be more like it. But a new client may just be the break she needs – Max Donovan is a break alright .... And not for the right reasons.
Drop dead gorgeous game designer, Max is asking for a loan from Alliance for 10 million dollars to create his new game. His 1st meeting with Payton is flawed with humour over her non belief of who this guy really is... All hot designer jeans, uber fitted tees and converse is not the best 1st impression. But it’s those things along with spike hair and cocky attitude that hooks Payton in. Working with him and his company should be easy. Until she finds herself fitting in a little to well.
Max has worked hard to be where he is, a small lie on his funding application and a hot as hell associate to help and guide him, easy... But Max has had some serious life issues, falling in love and marrying then discovering his wife cheating has put a stone in his heart. His obvious feelings towards Payton are obvious from the 1st meeting, but those demons constantly push her away.
Will Max lose his company when it is targeted and more importantly will he lose the one woman who not only challenges him but loves him for who he is and what he does? Or will his insecurities be the opening he needs to see not every woman is a gold digger and cheater.
Yep, this really is as the synopsis says "a quirky 70k word standalone about life, love, and the pursuit of orgasms, I mean, video games." I adored this story so much, I loved Max, he was arrogant, smouldering and sexy, ooh, and rich and intelligent. What's not to like? Then we have Payton, she was an absolute blast, she's funny, sexy, intelligent, and just a straight up good honest person, I loved her. Payton works for a bank and is appointed to manage a financial loan for Max who owns one of the biggest gaming companies going. Let's just say they don't always see eye to eye in business. Lines get crossed and business becomes pleasure. Payton is unable to mix the two, the lines get all blurry. Does Max trust Payton enough to let her truly 'in'? The chemistry between the two is a definite 'hell yes", and the banter between all the characters that make up this wonderful story just adds to the fun, easy vibe of the book. Loved it. I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Being the younger sibling of a brother that was hoping I would be a boy, I have spent a fair portion of my life playing video games (my all time favourite is Pokemon Stadium for Nintendo64 if you were curious). Anyways, so naturally a book about a sexy video game developer sparked an interest in me.
The relationship between Max and Payton is probably best described as a punishing one. They both clearly like one another, but spend a majority of the book dancing around the subject and pushing each other away. It got to a point where I was just yelling at my Kindle, "Just make-out already!" ...if my flatmate didn't already think I was nuts, she might now be reconsidering moving in with me. But when those two finally get their shiz together, they are pretty damn adorable.
I think my favourite part of this novel are the scenes where Payton's BFF Charlie, is present -- all the better if she is messing with Avery in some form or another in it. She is just amazingly awesome, and I am hoping with all my heart that there is a spin-off novel about Charlie and Avery -- I feel like that'd be a hoot to read. *nudge nudge, Lawson*
PLAY is a quirky read that manages to fold the two worlds of gaming and banking into a entertaining read -- I am just as surprised as you. I will be hanging out for that spin-off though...
I couldn’t put this book down, I swear I even fell asleep and woke up with my kindle on my face because I wanted to keep reading until I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore. The only bad thing I could say about this book is that it wasn’t long enough!
Play is about a Banker and a Gamer. An unlikely pairing but it works. They are both determined in their Careers, Payton has just received a promotion and needs to prove herself. Max is trying to get a new game out and needs funding. What you end up with is a mixture of Humor, a touch of angst and a romance where the girl is actually chasing the guy for a change.
This was a really great read, Piper Lawson never disappoints, definitely one of my favorite reads for this year.
A highlight of this book is also Payton’s best friend Charlie, Piper if you are reading this I would love a spin off, maybe chuck in Riley as well for good measure!
You will want to pick this one up If you are looking for a fun New Adult read.
