We will never see the likes of these ships in battle again. Now it's pinpoint accuracy with rockets etc. In the Hood's day it was hope and judgement. Sometimes these worked out well - other times they didn't. The Hood was built too early for WW2 and despite a programme of upgrades to put it in the same league as some of the latest German ships, the Hood was never made into a "modern" competitor. It's a great read as the tension builds and builds until the final sad moment.
what a great ship went down fighting against a bigger and better ship ( the bismarck ) putting aside the massive loss of lives the Hood had a proper ending far better than finishing up in some eastern scrapyard. mr.bradford told a good story. for anyone interested in naval history this is a good read.
Amazed at the many minor errors that detracted from the obvious research that formed the basis for this book. Surely the tome should have been run through a spell checker while a printed copy was available to confirm the author's intentions.
