There were times when the book irritated me, but overall, I really enjoyed it.
The Vizoacs are not developed as characters, only thrown in for a cute factor occasionally, but otherwise ignored (eg: Caro is separated for months from Isolde, but doesn't once miss her) and Isolde is not given any personality of her own. We don't even learn the names of the other three pups, or ever see two of them. Also, the name pairing (Bonnie and Clyde, Buttercup and West, Isolde and ...yeah, no surprise here) is getting ridiculous;
Things are sprung on you, that you couldn't see coming, because you are given no reference or hints prior, just Bam! Cop that! And you are left going "WTF just happened?"
Yes, as another reviewer pointed out, Caro is sometimes rash, brash and foolish, but hey, she is only 23, not 43.
Other than Brann, the other Prodigies are largely ignored after their introduction. They are around, but more like furniture than participants.
The new characters introduced in the Chosen set are all quite different to the Hall books. You also get to see old characters developed further;
It is funny, but not as good as the Hall books;
The best thing is that you want to know more about the people - Julia (I think I have guessed that by now), Sin, Jasper, and a few others (no spoilers here);
There is a lot of background that still needs to be explained in next instalment;
It had a great ending. The type where if you were on the fence about buying the next book, it just became a certainty.
