Kel kade has somehow managed to turn what might have been a bland character in a generic fantasy novel into a mysterious figure I want to learn more about.
The tale itself is pretty standard for the fantasy genre, with Rez having a mysterious past that not even he knows about, but is delivered in such a way as to make the reader want to continue for just a bit longer. However, there are times I was forced to put the book down an exclaim “oh come on”. For example, in one scene Rez manages to not only catch a crossbow bolt out of the air, but also throw it back and kill the shooter.
Overall, I highly enjoyed Free the Darkness, and will be reading the rest of the series. Give it a go if you are after a good antihero story
