Kathleen McClure has a writing style that brings action to life and makes for easy reading. I loved her mix of conversation and internal dialogue with clever plot development and conclusions. Original, steam punkesque and definitely looking forward to more.
For years I wouldn't read a woman author's book. It didn't take long to work out that most author's who used initials were usually women and I would close the book and not bother with it. The truth was I couldn't stand the 47 pages of crap taken to describe the female character's feelings and reactions to their object of interest. For Christ's sake, get on with it. And this author does. So blokes, no point telling you anything about the story line, just get in and read it. This is written by some bloody good authors and you won't be throwing it down in disgust half way through.
What a fantastic find, Gideon Quinn is seriously a good read. The author has the ability to capture your imagination using no sexual connotations or explicit language. I think there is a lot more to this series and would enjoy it if it was put out as a television series or a movie. Kudos to all involved Braun
I really enjoyed the unexpected fusion of a whole lot of elements I love - action/adventure in space, a good redemption arc, interesting and imaginative characters, creatures, locales and language mixed with a dash of Oliver Twist all supported by a sturdy but surprising main character I can trust.
I mostly enjoyed this book, but got annoyed with all the times that Gideon started to remember his past when his fellow soldiers were brutally murdered. This usually seemed to happen when he should have been paying more attention to his surroundings and led to his getting clobbered, drugged and almost murdered. I ended up skipping past these sections. I liked the character Mia and the little draco Elvis. The bad guys finally got theirs, but should have been sent to mine the crystal, that would have been really good justice. I received a free copy of this book through AXP Author's Review Request and am freely and voluntarily writing this review.
The cover is gorgeous! It grabbed my attention, and I'm so glad it did. The story is so fast-paced, imaginative and just engrossing - I loved it! As for Gideon ... he's a fabulous hero. The journey he's on, not of redemption or vengeance, but justice, is Hollywood epic-worthy.
