There are so many books, advice columns and general chatter out there about how to land the perfect mate...perfectly. But I've found little of quality on offer for those times when Mr Right turns out to be Mr Not-Quite-Right. This books offers practical guidance around the difficulties that accompany the end of a relationship. Intimate endings are usually painful, and when we are in pain we can act in ways that we later regret, are not in our best interests and can have long term negative effects. Krupka's direct but conversational style helps orient us through the many and varied pains of breaking up. I'd never thought of it as an 'art' before reading this book, but creating a new post-relationship life really is something that requires the patience, skill, courage of an artist. It is a creative act. "The Fine Art of Breaking Up" is a book about living fully again at those times when you're either semi-comatose with grief or apoplectic with post-relational rage. This is an etiquette book, but don't let that put you off. And it's not about being 'nice' either - it's about how to find the right ways to respond to an ending so that a new beginning has the best chance of emerging. If you want to know how to nurse your body, mind, soul and heart in the wake of a break up, this book is the first one you should read. Highly recommended. - Mr O.
Hey, it happens to most of us at least once. And we all know that breaking up is hard to do. We even write songs about it. Zoe Krupka is my favourite columnist on News.com.au and I was very excited to see that she has published her first book. Filled with wisdom and humour and based on her work with individuals in private practice (and her own life experience), this book is filled with practical, sensible, comforting and sane break up advice. This book is recommended for the breakup-ee, the breakup-er and friends and family too.
