This is an epic story that sets a lot of groundwork for what looks like to be a huge saga. I couldn't stop reading when I started, yet it hasn't clung to me when I finished, so the characters haven't really wormed into me. It's well written and a lot of thought and plotting has gone into the book. I guess the only reason I haven't given that final star is purely because I'm not chomping at the bit to drop myself back in for another seven hours for the next book, and I don't think that is any fault of the author, just possibly a lack of connection with her characters and myself.
I really enjoyed this book. I found it an engaging, turn-the-pages-quickly story that was filled with interest and excitement. There are elements here of 'The Hunger Games,' 'Divergent,' 'The Fifth Wave,' even 'Twilight' but all recreated into a story that sucked me in. The main negative I have with this book is the amount of swearing, including the "f" word which seems really unnecessary in a book aimed at teenagers as well as young adults. It is because of this level of language that I am not giving this book five stars. There is also a plot twist that involves discussing sex a lot but the emphasis is on not having it.
So well written, so many twists, you the reader think you have it worked out! Then bam, your theory is up ended again. Believable characters, fascinating story and insight in to human kind and the human spirit!
I became a fan of Siobhan Davis's when I first read True Calling, her first book. I have since then read everything that she has written and published. I've loved all of them. I was of course, excited, when I heard that she was working on a new series. Ms. Davis does not disappoint. Just as she did in the True Calling series, she creates a completely new world in Saven: Deception.
As always, Ms. Davis's writing pulls you in right away. I'm finding it hard to describe this book without giving lots of spoilers, which I try not to do. I love the new world that she's created. I loved the characters. I loved how most of the plot twists were completely unexpected. (I guessed one of the main ones, but because she wanted her readers to, she laid the groundwork early on.)
I can't wait for the other books in the series to be published, so that I can read them!
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I had thought that the True Calling trilogy was spectacular, but Saven Deception is a new breed of page-turner excellence. Siobhan Davis’ writing flows as well as ever, with hooks, intrigue, mystery and romance, and without a single plot blemish, let alone hole, in sight. Each and every character is likeable and relatable to in some way – Sadie’s strength despite her innocence is admirable; Logan is impossibly passionate and protective of Sadie; and all the other characters have been brought to life with supreme precision and skill. So much so that you feel all the pain, all the anguish, and all the love without hesitating to debate if it’s reality or not (it is). The plot is flawless, growing and developing naturally without being forced. Secrets and surprises are hidden in every nook and cranny, and the twists and turns around every corner draw you into their universe – which has been immaculately constructed. From the streets and monotonous high-rises of Sector fourteen, to the pristine allure of Thalassic City in all its gleaming colour, this is a world that my heart and mind calls out to, all realism and rationality thrown out the window. Fast paced and fabulous, this book could not be put down by any means, and I found myself unrelentingly dreaming of the world and people that have been created. I would recommend Saven Deception to anyone, especially those who love YA, dystopian, (futuristic) fantasy and romance novels – you will utterly adore this book. I confess to not previously having read any books of the science fiction genre, but I now definitely intend to. Words cannot express how much I thoroughly anticipate the next book in the series. These views expressed are my own, honest and unbiased opinions. I received a free copy of the book in exchange for a truthful review free from subjectivity.
This book is a fantastic read, Ms Davis books have always been captivating and after reading her true calling series i knew she was an author that i would be waiting to read the next great thing she wrote. I've just finished reading it for the second time and i still was hooked from the first chapter, She has created a whole new exciting world in Saven Deception and what a brilliant world it is, full of excitement, mystery and romance. this new world she has created kept me reading late into the night from the romance story between Logan and Sadie to the mystery of what the aliens were doing on earth. The plot has twists and turns that you wouldn't always expect and that is part of the reason why she is a brilliant author and why i cant wait to read the rest of this series.
HHHMMMM lets see what did I love.... The beautifully woven romance, sci-fi, and dystopian themes. The plot was a little slow in the beginning, but the book is well written so it keeps you reading. Action picks up a third of the way in and you really can not put the book down. The conclusion is huge and exciting. I liked the characters that have personalities and agenda that keeps them interesting. I was not sure if i wanted to read another book with a love triangle, but thankfully this on didn't really happen. Unless it will really take shape as the series goes on. I love YA, sci-fi, fantasy, romance books because of stories like this one! I received a free advance copy of this book from the author in exchange for your honest review.
