A story of survival against the odds
26 August 2016
The Girl With No Name actually has two names; Lisa Becker before her accident and Charlotte Smith after it.
Lisa manages to escape Hitler's holocaust in 1939 by being evacuated by train to England, along with a local boy, Heinrich Schwartz. Once in London, she is fostered by Naomi and Dan, a childless couple. Soon after, the London Blitz begins, and both Lisa and Harry are caught and separated in a bombing raid. Lisa has been struck by a piece of shrapnel, causing her to lose her memory.
Lisa is given the name Charlotte Smith. She moves to a country village in Suffolk, where she finds peace with Miss Edie, a woman with her own story of loss. She also finds Billy, and young love.
The war finally ends, and Charlotte (Lisa) looks for her family. Has any of them survived the war? The ending is bitter-sweet, with two deaths, but a new married life.
An emotional and charming take on the amnesia theme.
