Top critical review
Starts slowly but finishes well
31 May 2014
Buying Thyme starts very slowly. I felt like I was reading a cross between Pretty Woman and Secret Life of a Call Girl. We spend the first half of the book going through Miranda's daily life as an escort and meeting a few clients. But at 50% I was wondering where the story was going. I was seriously annoyed constant references to expensive brands. Miranda's Prada bag is mentioned so many times I was starting to wonder if the author was getting some kind of royalty.
I hung in there and it was worth it. At about 65% you start to see where the story is going. Is the crime boss as bad as he seems? Why is one of the country's richest men hiring an escort just to talk? The last 25% of this book with the mystery and action is really good and worth the slow start. I've already moved straight on to book 2 to find out what happens next.
