No matter how hard you run tonight, you can’t run from your destiny. the Fates had created her especially for him. The Fates were not simply cruel, they had a diabolical sense of humor. Damn the Fates. HOLY WOWZERS!! What a WICCANLY AWESOME book!! I fell all but instantly in love with Dana and loved how her back story is told, how we get to know how, and then understand just why I DID connect with her so fast! Then there’s Rekkus... all I'll say about him is that Rekkus causes quite the ruckus to multiple parts of me, so poor Dana doesn't have a hope in Haus!! Did I say "poor" Dana?? *snort* Ya, oh poor, poor Dana has to deal with a guy who's a tiger in and out of the bed! wink I love, Love, LOVE how everything comes to life with Dominique's storytelling! I love how honest & fresh her writing is! It takes the story to an even higher level. Given that this is The Book that sets up all future books for a multi-author series that all builds off of these characters & their resort I have to say I was BEYOND impressed & blown away by the amount of story Shifting Hearts has! Yes, it does establish the main people who own & run the resort, how the programs for the vacationers are set-up, scheduled & ran, how the paras and the "mere" humans are kept safe, etc. but Dominique works it into the story so perfectly & seamlessly, it wasn't until I started working on my review that I realized just how much knowledge, background & history she had worked into Rekkus & Dana's story WITHOUT taking anything away from them!! I'm a little embarrassed to say this, but it's my first Dominique Eastwick book! But what a SHIFTACULAR one to start with!! I am ABSOLUTELY in love, Love, LOVE with Dominique's writing style, the characters, the story itself and am SUPER EXCITED to have FINALLY read the story that kicked off this FAN-WICCAN-TASTIC series!! I have only read Merryn Dexter's Wiccan Haus books, so it's pretty cool to now see how it all began! I'm definitely eager to read ALL of them, but it will take some time to catch up! WHOOOT! wink Good thing Grandma was keeping watch on & for Dana!! Fates indeed!
4 1/2 STARS This is the second book of Ms. Eastwick's that I have read and I must say I found it to be an unexpected delight and fun first book in the series. The characters had great chemistry, are interesting, strong, stubborn, sexy and well written out. The store was fresh, intriguing, had a little danger, exciting and just an all around a joy to read. The writing was smooth and energetic. The book grabs you from page one and doesn't let you go until the story has been told. I look forward to reading more of the series.
