I’m rapidly making my way through everything N.R. Walker’s ever written, and this book was quite a treat. I definitely have a weakness for “starting a new life” stories, particularly when that new life involves charming small towns and adorable dogs- not to mention adorable love interests.
I really enjoyed reading about Nathan’s journey. I would identify him as demisexual- i.e. he’s generally not interested in sex until he finds someone he has a real connection with. I liked how Nathan didn’t seem too bothered by his lack of interest in sex before he met Trent; even though he knew he was unhappy and wasn’t content with his life, he didn’t blame his unhappiness entirely on his sexual differences. His general acceptance and lack of judgement of his libido was a nice touch and something I really appreciated. Of course it’s very confusing for him when his libido suddenly goes into overdrive upon meeting Trent, and I think this new and unfamiliar development for him is really well thought-out and written by the author. The chemistry between the two characters and their emotional connection was thoroughly enjoyable.
Trent’s character was also well-written. He’s immensely likeable at once thanks to his complete acceptance of Nathan’s lack of sexual experience and the care he takes to ensure he’s not hurting or overwhelming Nathan as their physical relationship progresses. His unwillingness to go too far with their relationship (i.e. penetrative sex) reflects his own fears of commitment and of forming emotional bonds. Both Trent and Nathan have satisfying character arcs that address their own fears. They’re both in limbo-like stages of their lives and have met at just the right time to send their lives off in a new direction- doing so takes a lot of courage, of course.
I’m constantly having to suspend my disbelief with m/m romance at just how fast characters in this genre fall in love; yet it’s ROMANCE, after all, and the authors have carefully crafted their characters to be perfect for each other, to complement each other so well. Giving the characters another few weeks, maybe a few months even, to get to know each other wouldn’t hurt if you ask me, but at the end of the day, it was definitely believable that these two characters in particular were well-suited enough to fall in love.
I’d recommend Walker’s books to anyone; they are well-written and well thought-out, and often feature dogs. What more could you want? This was a really fun, enjoyable read!
Move over Abigail Roux and Charlie Cochet there is another author being added toy favourites. This is the second book by N.R Walker that i have read and it was just as good as the last. It drew me in and held me tight until the very last page. It was a mix of sweet and sexy that was just right. The characters came together with a bang (pun intended) and found their footing together. It was awesome and in all honesty this would be an epic introduction into gay romance or for those who just love the genre.
Who could not love a work of art. Nathan wandering through life feeling that there should be more, but what? Trent wandering through life knowing what he needs, but unable to give himeself over to it because of past loss. Two men on a road to discovery. Two men who were destined to save each other and a dog who likes strawberry jam, well why wouldn't he? I loved this story, simplistic, but not, depth and meaning brought out not just by words but by the characters themselves. A picture paints a thousand words but the interpretation is in the eye of the beholder. If you like a well written narration of ones journey of self discovery and an ending of happiness then this book is a must.
What an absolutely wonderful book. I could not put this book down, I stayed up all night to finish it. It made me laugh, it made me cry, but most of all it made me feel part of the story, like I was watching friends. This is the third book by this author I have read and each one is better than the last.
This story is in the first person "I felt this", this makes the story more touchy and feeling. The book explores the feelings that render one speechless, a feeling of desire and one that gets your heart racing. The writing in this book gives a natural attraction, but not sure why experience. This is how I feel not a cognitive explanation.
What a book. Couldn't put it down the storyline kept me riveted to the book. N r walker has some of the best stories of ordinary people living their lives. The ups and down make you feel for each character in the authors books. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to reading even more books from this talented writer.
Loved this story. NR Walker is a fantastic author! This story was full of passion & love, I truly didn't want it to end. I became quite invested in Nathan & Trent. Two beautiful & lonely souls who richly deserved their HEA!
