Sacrifice by Adriana Locke was a very angsty read, but I think it's an excellent one about faith, hope and love. Admittedly, I haven't read all her work, but of the books I have read, this is the best, in my opinion. The tone for Sacrifice was very much like a Greek tragedy - the downfall of a fallible hero, his desire to make good (despite severe challenges), fate/destiny and a final revelation. Crew Gentry was the fallen hero. He was a self centred, complex and contradictory badboy who became full of regret and only existed. In time, Crew lost everything that was important to him because of his weaknesses, but later he decided to man up and face every battle that came his way with all the selfless strength he could muster. Julia, the struggling heroine's life had been one long battle full of heartbreak. She was strong, but vulnerable. Adorable daughter Everleigh, as an extension of her mother, suffered things a sweet little girl should never suffer. Enter Crew to become their prince and in turn, they made him feel whole again. But, as in all Greek tragedy, a sacrifice must be offered, and Crew had to offer himself up and he did so willingly and completely. To add a bit of comic relief, Adriana created the wonderfully honest, loyal, brash and gorgeous Will Gentry, Crew's cousin. His dialogue and Boston lingo was a crack up. I wonder if he may have his own story featuring his 'match' Macie. Adriana's writing was outstanding in this book - plot, dialogue, imagery and reflections...just beautiful. The sex scenes were hot and electric. Some readers may find Julia's love for the two Gentry brothers, Crew and Gage unpalatable (albeit at different times), but Adriana makes it work. This was a very emotional narrative, but I highly recommend it to readers who like this romance/drama genre. **It sat on my TBR list since it was published - should have read it earlier!!
I absolutely loved this book, the storyline was different and had me reading each page as quickly as I could wanting to know what happens next. The more I read I found myself trying to see the words through my tears and I couldn't wait to finish it. Not long finished reading it and I feel that I have gone ten rounds in the cage!
Be prepared to be on an emotional roller coaster that just doesn't end. Adriana Locke hit this one out of the park. The characters are written perfectly, Crew, Jules & Ever will have you falling in love with each of them for different reasons. I read this is one sitting and needed a few days afterward just to get over it. So good it's almost too much.
This is the first book I have read from this author & I loved it. Loved the characters Jules, Everleigh & Crew. You got to know them & feel every emotion they went through. I had tears & I couldn't put it down. Look forward to reading more.
I bought this book having never heard of the author before, simply on the recommendation of a book blog I follow, and reading the blurb.
The idea of a guy who tries to do right by those he loves, even if they don't appreciate it appealed to me, and the book doesn't fail to deliver.
To Julia, Crew is the brother-in-law she wishes she didn't have. A washed up MMA fighter who she blames for her husband's death, and the ex-boyfriend who left her for the bright lights that college had to offer so many years ago. Far too proud to ask for help, and just too poor to not accept it, not when she has a little girl to provide for, Julia tolerates Crew's presence in their lives, but only barely.
When Everleigh, Julia's daughter gets sick, its make or break time for Crew. Will he step up and be the man they both need him to be? Or will he fall apart in the attempt?
Or will he do both?
I absolutely adored this book and was stunned and reduced to tears by the ending (so I'm not going to ruin it for you)
I was just ultimately so excited to now read this most unbelievable classic romantic book. Written by one of my most favourite authors, Adrian's Locke. This most beautiful and emotional piece, yet so enjoyable too. I loved this book so much, loving all its characters so much. I found it very hard to put down at night!
As Crew Gentry ventured out through the storm and snowy grounds it appeared ahead to see a huge building house. Watching above he could see these family member smoking heavy drugs. This was not a nice place for him to live.
Now trying to get inside his building he knocks aloud just hoping that Julie Gentry could hear him. They were both angered at each other. He just wanted to help her, even buy things she needs. She was definitely not the happiest person. As Julie screamed for her daughter, Everleigh. Crew notices his adorable niece just hoping he brought her a treat. She now looks like her father, Crews' brother, Gage. Both Adults here could make thing work. He was now just scared of losing both Jules and Everleigh together.
I thoroughly adored the most wonderful and most amazing romance ever. It was just so beautiful. I just loved it tremendously!!
