Enjoyable but not hilarious and the author comes across as grumpy
7 October 2018
I have loved nearly all of Bill Bryson's travel books and was keen to see his views on the UK again so many years after the superb "Notes from a Small Island", but instead of laugh-out-loud writing, too much of the book involved the author being a grumpy old man complaining about change and how the towns he visited didn't have independent butchers and grocers on their high street and other not really pertinent things. Still worth reading, but not his best work either, sadly.
