First and foremost, this is the last book in the Alpha Hearts trilogy which can be read as a standalone. By now most of you who read our reviews will know that we are big MC fans of Ms Jewel’s writings because we do adore her writing skills. So we were over the moon to be given the chance to review this final book in the series.
The female protagonist, Delaney, is a strong willed, sassy young woman and knows what she wants out of life. After being turned down for the army due to medical reasons, she chooses to become a body guard. She has to work extra hard in this male dominated profession and it doesn’t help that her male co-workers don't believe she is up to the job. After she proves she is just as good as her male counterparts, she lands a big case. Now this is something she’s been after for a while and she’s determined not to screw it up! Only when she meets the man she has to protect, the attraction she has for him is off the scales! With her colleagues always telling her it’s a ‘man’s world’ she’s intent on proving her worth. With very little choice, she pushes forward and attempts to put her attraction for him to the back of her mind; yes, easier said than done you say. Well, this is where the trouble begins... You with us so far? Good! Now for our man.
Delaney ~ ‘’It has nothing to do with training, does it sir. But it does have to do with what’s between my legs.’’
Jax is pure alpha male and a billionaire man-whore to boot! He’s found himself in a bit of a tight spot and needs protection although he hasn’t quite banked on his protection being a woman! To begin with, he is downright nasty to her and doesn’t hold back in telling her so. But the tables are soon turned on him when there’s a situation and he finds out just how good Delaney is at her job. So does he start to change his mind, well that would be spoiling it so we aren’t going to tell! Lines are being crossed, the sexual tension is high, danger escalates and throw jealous friends into the mix and you’re left with quite a state of affairs! (pun intended)
Jax ~ ‘’If you want me to stop, you have to make me.’’
Now we both admit to struggling with rating on this book, as we have mixed feelings on it. For us the story was very similar to the first book in the series, ‘Hard to Fight’ which we read and very much enjoyed. We would have liked to see Delaney more ‘badass’ for want of a better word! To risk her job in a world where she’s struggled to find acceptance in, it was a little hard to understand at times. We could’ve shouted at her for some of the decisions she made!
Jax ~ ‘’It’s too big of a risk. I might want it, but f***, Laney, we’re dancing with fire.’’
There were some great side characters and we would’ve liked to see more from them. Especially Delaney’s boss, Nak. We loved him! He was so sweet to Delaney and gave her chances that she sometimes didn’t deserve. Even though we did struggle with the storyline somewhat, we couldn’t find fault with Ms Jewel’s writing at all! We are huge fans of her books; however, for us this story was a little too predictable. This was a story we could’ve put down and picked up again later and for that reason we award this book three stars.
