Imagine being afraid of your own shadow...because you know it could kill you. The concept for this was so cool I absolutely HAD to read it, and I have to admit, it's not what I expected. Darker, with twists and turns that left me dreading what happens next. You know those moments when in Game of Thrones where you go, "NO! That can't have happened!"? This book has more than one of those...and yet it's a style all its own. So hard not to give spoilers for this one. You'll just have to read it for yourself, though it will make you afraid of the light... Five stars
Intriguing story of Selena whose shadow seems to have a life of its own, sucking her into a secret and dangerous world whenever she least expects it. I love the originality of this story. I read a lot of paranormal and I haven't found anything like this. The main character is likeable and you feel a lot of sympathy for her, especially in relation to her grief over what's happening to her and the way it affects her family. The action is continuous and unpredictable. The main male character Brayden is also a complex, interesting character - right up until the last couple of chapters I wasn't sure which way Brayden was inclined: good or evil. I'm intrigued to know where this is going. Looking forward to book 2.
Beyond the Shadows is Book 1 of the Shadow Series. I was intrigued from the first chapter. My thoughts were rampant, what happened, how did it happen and why did it happen? Selena needed to know if she was the only one left caught in Shadowland. All her hopes relied on Brayden being there with her but then he was gone. She now understood why he gave up so easily. Selena was shifting from here real world to the Shadowland more often, then suddenly Brayden was there again, how was that possible. At least now she wasn’t alone anymore, something appeared different about him. The Hunters and animals were something they had to be weary of if Selena and Brayden wanted to survive in this world. Could it be possible there were other humans in Shadowland that were not Hunters? Is there a way to stop the Shadow from taking over? I don’t know if I have the courage Selena did to survive. As humans are our survival instinct so strong we will do whatever we have to so we can live. I felt here terror and her courage. I even felt as if I was there with Selena. Anna Hubs ability to describe the scene was brilliant. Selena and Braydon had no choice but to do whatever they had to so they could survive this new world. Shadow Hunters is the next book in this intriguing series.
