Modern Lesson In The Intractability Of Religious And Nationalist Programming of Youth

Brilliant. The war aspect is horrifying. Makes Hollywood war movies look like what they mostly are, rubbish. The important things for me
1. When two roughly equal state based militaries fight with Air Sea and land power the outcome is red bloody murder on both sides and mentally devastated survivors. Nothing glorious. Amazing bravery yes, glory no way.
2. The power of state or faith based propaganda. The German troops were confused as to why the Americans and British and Canadians were attacking them. They had done nothing against these people and were protecting "France" and "United Europe". This is why there was no surrender. In another publication where German Generals spoke out after the war they said that in WW1 they could cease fighting because the troops wanted it to end. In WW2 the rank and file were convinced by 10 years of propaganda and conditioning that they were in the right and that they should fight it out. This book confirms that. It has implications today in relation to Russia, China, North Korea and Islam. Nothing new there.
