The story was okay. For me it lacked the connection between the two main characters. The time line was wishy washy and i felt that life events just didn't happen. There was a lot of telling and not much showing. I liked the Love series and Megan's writing is generally pretty good, but i just wasnt drawn in, i put the book down several times and i actually read a whole other book while getting the energy to finish this one.
Spoiler Alert *****************************
There is no HEA. I get that not everyone in life gets a HEA and that is true enough. But to pull off what happened this book needed more, it needed more emotion, connection and story line. I couldn't see how much love they supposedly shared so the ending was just blah. I should have been in tears at the loss of a soul mate but really i just closed the book and thought well that was crap. It needed more, of what i don't know but it was lacking in trying to pull off such an emotional ending. I love a story where the under dog comes out on top and for all her work and sacrifice i think that Layla deserved a HEA, the ending just didnt fit. If i remove the ending the book was still just an okay read for me.
I wasnt sure if I was going to get into this book being a spin off of The Love Series and I wasn't sure what to expect but I have no words as always Megan Smith knocked it out of the ball park this is worth so much more than 5 stars. Eli and Layla are a bit slow on the uptake of each other but for totally different reasons. Layla has a tragic past and is clinging to the wrong relationship to try and keep not only her head above water but her 6 year old sister when Eli and Layla cross paths destiny is written in the stars. Life is going seemingly well for them all until one tragic night. This book is full of emotions you will laugh and cry.
OMG! I didn't expected the ending the way it ended. I was a wreck after reading Eli's letter to Layla. I hope Megan Smith will write a sequel about Eli. It can't end like that. Can't wait when the next one comes out.
