I wasn't sure I was going to like 'Abandon' when I started it, but was hooked well and truly by the end of the second chapter. It starts out like you would expect for a typical ghost story, but that is where the similarities end and Blake Crouch takes you down a trail of pure horror. The research into the period of history, the 1890's, brings an air of authenticity to his writing. The style is punchy, making it difficult to put down and when you do, you're wanting to pick it up again.
The characters of each era are realistic and the way the stories are woven and eventually merge is pure artistry. It is a tale based on greed and the madness it inspires. Brilliant story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you want a true horror, settle in with this on a cold and stormy night. You won't be disappointed.
