STRONG PLOT, GOOD CHARACTERS AND ENGAGING WRITING
Reviewed in Australia on 7 October 2018
Australian writer, Lily Malone wrote an engaging romance with a heroine who faced a number of real issues in 'Fairway to Heaven'.
I found Lily's writing to be fluid, natural, topical, sensitive and insightful. At the same time she kept things light and added a lot of humour.
MC Jennifer Gates was a relatable character - hard working, a mother, dealing with the fallout from an unfaithful boyfriend and at the same time, dealing with a personal condition.
The plot helped readers to get to know Jennifer. Fed up with her lot, she packed up her little son, Seb and headed off to the Culhane family beach house in Busselton, Western Australia (at the invitation of her BFF, Emmy Culhane). Unbeknownst to Jenn, Emmy's brother, Brayden, was also at the house on a break from his mining job, after a serious incident. They had had a fledgling relationship years ago and the opportunity to develop their feelings arose, again.
The main theme of FTH was becoming the driver of your own destiny (with support from those who matter) and it touched on courage, challenges and perseverance.
