I enjoyed this skilfully written romantic mystery very much. Merry is a reporter for a local newspaper, having moved to Amhearst to get over a failed relationship, when her personal life and the events following a murder become dramatically entangled. The plot moves forward at a good pace, with lots of suspense and plenty of humour, to a surprising and gripping conclusion. The characters are very well-drawn, their issues and struggles all-too-human. As I read about one flawed character, I was irresistibly reminded of someone I know and suddenly understood her better than ever before. Gayle Roper understands human nature! Altogether, this is a very satisfying read. It isn't the kind of book that I usually choose, but I would certainly read more of the author's novels. It has been skilfully transferred to Kindle and I, the bloodhound of grammatical mistakes, did not find even one. This is a Christian book and has a clear Christian message, though it is not at all preachy.
This is actually part of a series. I wasn't sure about reading it, but was ready a really good book that I could get caught up in. WOW!!! This series was actually the first set of books I read from Gayle Roper & may I say, that I FELL IN LOVE with these books! So I've been reading her ever since (for about the past month)! Fantastic story lines & I normally don't do 1st person books! However, these I would recommend to EVERYONE! Mystery, suspense, danger, love, you've got it all in her books & this one is definitely no exception!
Hooray for Gayle Roper....long may she write. This especially touched me because I gave up my dear baby girl in 1959. I still mourn her every December. Thank heaven treatment of these young mothers is far more supportive these days.
