this book surprised me.following a story of a young woman struggling to find her way in male academic world, it gives characters even a bit illustrative (like Edward Hopper paints people) but alive, describes feelings with precision and accuracy of scientific research, reflects actual situations and problems of women in academy. at some point as a plot proceeds it obtains a quality of a thriller hard to put down. very good first book.
