This workbook covers the 440 kanji that the Japanese student needs to know by the end of third grade.
Each set of problems is written as a series of sentences with a section of the hiragana underlined and the student is meant to read through the sentences and then replace the underlined portion with the correct kanji. Sentences are given in kanji and kana or romaji but there are no English translations.
I would have preferred to have the kanji/kana sentence followed by the same sentence all in kana rather than the romaji because I think less reliance on romaji is a good thing but that's my only issue with this book.
It's a good solid practice book that the Japanese student can work through to practise their kanji and Japanese reading skills.
