We all have times when we hate our job but when your job is to celebrate the "happiest day of our lives" for starry-eyed brides and your own marriage has shattered - that's a tough gig. Murphy draws on her experience as a marriage celebrant to deftly portray her ten wedding parties with everything from sweet young things and autumn romance to bridezilla and warring Romeo and Juliet lovers (where the reception centre has the police on speed dial "just-in-case"). Amongst the comic relief is the pain and anger of a long-term marriage broken by infidelity; the irritation and power of sisterly love and the realisation that through all life's battles it is the strength of family and friends that brings new hope and new beginnings. I'll be downloading the sequel for my next holiday read.
Viv is a marriage celebrant and after her own marriage falls apart, becomes disillusioned with the idea of marriage. She honors the weddings she has already committed to and we get to meet a variety of interesting characters.
Is it too late for Viv to work things out with her husband or is there a new love on her horizon?
I liked Viv and her sisters. The romance plot was balanced out with other deeper issues so wasn't too light and fluffy. A debut novel by an Australian author. It was not full of Australian references, which may help it feel more universally relatable.

This was a really good book with great characters and a good plot. I initially found the story a bit hard to get into as I don't normally read books about people who are in their late thirties to mid forties. Once I got used to this however the book was quite enjoyable. The book felt realistic and the intertwining of the sisters' lives and their unique personalities were interesting. I didn't like the ending however as it seemed to rushed and I was left without a feeling of closure. Overall, this was a good read.
