The book was fine....but whoever proofed this book needs to work on their vocabulary a little bit. Breeches do not have "placards" on the front. A placard is a sign or notice, usually carried during a demonstration. I think the word the author was looking for is "placket". Not a huge error, but it comes up numerous times in the book and is irritating, as is all incorrect word usage. Other than that little irritation, the book was a decent read for its genre.
** I received the final version of this book from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**
I was privilege to be a beta reader for A Whisper of Desire, thank you Ms. Evans for this beautiful opportunity!
I adored A Whisper of Desire, written by Bronwen Evans! OMG! It was intense, filled with strong emotions, rich characters and passion! You can't ask for more! Readers will be touched again by this passionate story! A MUST TO READ!
I loved Maitland and Marisa’s complex love story! Lots of twists and turns, to keep me turning pages......... The love scenes are filled with sensuality, tenderness and passion. Two in particular were very pleasing to read...their first love scene was so delicious and the scene when she plays her role as the young man for her husband, so delicious!
I found Marisa, intelligent, bold, direct and passionate and Maitland, outspoken, honest, direct, tortured emotionally because of his past, also with a touch of arrogance. Also, he thought he had to keep control in everything even in sex, but Marisa wanted control too. They were perfect for each other, controlling and totally afraid of falling in love. He had learned, in his young age, to control his emotions, but his wall had become so tick, even as an adult, he always had the need to be in control. Until, he meets a woman who loved and craved control in the bedroom. But as time went on, with trust, love and passion they became perfect lovers.
The plot is well developed, some scenes are very emotional, at the club, some scenes are very intense. Sensuality is very much present in this one. I highly recommend A Whisper of Desire, you won't be disappointed!
Approximately 5% of this story was dedicated to the search for some villainess, who is trying to kill the members of the 'Libertine Scholars'. The remainder was all about sex. The characters ride in Rotten Row...they discuss sex. They go to balls...they discuss sex. The heroine visits a Duchess she has recently met...to discuss sex. That is the whole aim of the book.
Maitland marries Sebastian' s sister Marisa, an innocent virgin (well not so innocent as she has been spying on someone performing a sexual act) Within two days of marriage, he has agreed to use her as a means to gain information on this villainess. What does he do, bearing in mind he does not want to put her in harm's way? Only take her dressed as a man, to a club for men who want sex with men and where perverted acts are performed. What does she do? Steal a book with illustrations of various sexual positions. Duh!!!! The final insult was when Maitland got a 'posse' put together. A posse!!! Are we reading about the wild west or Regency England? It is a disgrace to call this book a romance when all the author wishes to do is write as much about the sexual act as possible. I will never discover who the villainess is and frankly I don't care. This story is a huge joke on anyone who buys it.
Really enjoyable read crammed full of passion, intrigue, torment, tragedy and ultimately love. This is the first book in the series I have read but will definately be seeking the previous and concluding books if they prove to be anything like this one. Although, the series is centred around the hunting of a villainess, which won't be revealed until the last book, this didn't impede my enjoyment or made me any less entralled in Marisa and Maitland's path to love, it just leaved me wanting more. Instantly loved Marisa and Maitland and their spark emiting chemistry that just seemed to ignite when they were together. The addition of the other 'Libertine Scholars' and their strong, intelligent wives, not to mention Clarence & Simon and Helen too, hold great appeal and intrigue helping to add depth to the tale. Overall an absorbing read that I couldn't put down until finished. Loved it!
The fourth in the Disgraced Lords series, which could stand-alone. However as I love series I’d recommend reading this series in order. Lady Marisa Hawkestone’s, sister of Sebastian, is expecting to receive a marriage proposal fro the Earl of Rutherford but Maitland Spencer, the Duke of Lyttleton witnesses the real Rutherford & has to tell Marisa the truth. The nightmare continues for Marisa when she wakes up naked, with no memory of the night before, lying next to Maitland. Maitland is nicknamed ‘the Cold Duke’, because he is aloof and rational & also a wiz with numbers. They have no choice but to marry. Maitland has a very strict regime, as he believes this will stop him becoming like his debauched syphilitic father but he hadn’t expected to be so enthralled by his wife. Another brilliant book in the series, the woman out for revenge is still unknown but the Libertine Scholars are getting closer. ‘M&M’ are so right for each other & how their story unfolds really moved me. The female characters in the whole series are strong opinionated women & Marisa is no different, however she has a compassionate side, which she uses to help orphans. Maitland is tortured by an event that took place when he was 16 only when he confides in Marisa is she able to help him come to terms with it. He may be ‘the cold duke’ but there’s nothing cold about him in the bedroom. A well-written book full of romance & suspense I can’t wait for Hadley’s story
Worse yet. I will definitely not be buying anymore in the series. From the beginning they have to marry after being drugged and compromised by the villianess in the story. So he has to marry a woman he has offered for already ? How is this a revenge ? They mainly marry for an heir and that is the one thing taken away from them so there goes the happy ending, and the sex scenes were not up to others in the series. Where was the romance, love good sex scenes Hea - There is none ....
