If, like me, you've lost count of the books and blog posts you've consumed on infant sleep, feeding and fussing, but are still struggling, READ THIS BOOK. For 10 weeks I was continually disheartened that my beautiful baby fussed and cried all day, couldn't self-soothe and refused to respond to the structured techniques so commonly suggested by other experts. I ended up spending most of my days alone indoors with the blinds pulled, endlessly rocking my baby: obsessed with cultivating her sleep (according to touted sleep algorithms) and trying to meet her feeding demands. Her day sleeps were improving but I was isolated and unravelling, fast. This book instantly changed everything for me. Dr Pam offers simple, sensible advice for mums that will rapidly change your perspective and approach to mothering, and most importantly, will see you out about with your baby - enjoying your life again! This book has helped me to identify that my baby very possibly has some feeding issues that need addressing, and I am now armed with the reassurance and knowledge needed to seek appropriate support. This is one of those books that speaks to your heart whilst still being practical and evidence based. Highly recommend!
Dr Pam Douglas offers so much insight into the experience of having a newborn baby - what to expect, how to persevere and how to find joy in the little moments - all in a book that also provides up-to-date and contemporary evidence-based research to support her recommendations for mothers and babies.
Absolutely essential reading for any Mother to be or new Mum that wants an approach to caring for a new baby that brings more joy and ease to your life! That helps you hon your natural instincts as a Mum, debunking old practises and having you be in sync with your baby.
Ignore all the other advice out there on sleep, Dr Pamela Douglas debunks all the baby sleep myths and provides a whole new perspective on how to maximise enjoying your new baby and taking the stress out of what you "should" be doing.
If you only read one book about new babies read THIS ONE!! It makes sooooooo much sense and helps remind you to use your basic human instincts about how to deal with your baby. Best book I've read by a mile and I wish I'd read it when bubs was first born.
