I don't make many of these review, but with this product I'm motivated to make one. When I saw the product and the related product of lanterns, I though this could be useful. Once I got the product, issues surfaced. First you have to assemble the 3 parts, they are quite small and the quality of the casting leaves a little to be desired. Some parts were loose, some too tight and some of the thin parts broke trying to put them together. Out of the 3 torches and 3 lanterns, I have 1 torch and 2 lanterns that hold together and for now, didn't break. I may be able to put another lantern together if I glue it, but two of the torch shaft connecters to the stand broke, maybe I can glue it... really shouldn't have to though.
Dislikes: Cost - you only get 3. Material - flimsy and doesn't want to bond with either Super glue or plastic model cement. Instructions: NONE - they're small parts with slits cut into them of varying sizes and although the base and support piece go together fine, the rest is kind of a mystery (and hard to get glued on since glue doesn't want to stick to the torch components- a different type of plastic?).
They accomplish their goal of being a visual reminder of who has a torch, something that can be easily forgotten or overlooked. Now that I have used them in session they are a must have at the table. However, I would of liked if they would of had a more versatile base since they do not fit well around my square based miniatures (obviously), which I mostly use. I would recommend to any table, even those who use square bases.
So, I really like the idea of this. But the pieces I got were not well done. It requires assembly but the pieces are far looser than I would expect for what appear to be laser cut pieces. There isn't really any reason for them to be this trifling. I am currently in the process of permanently gluing my pieces together in hopes that they may be table worthy.
These seem like a good idea. I like having 3d representation for torch bearers. However, the quality just isn't there. It's a good thing that you get 3 in a pack because 2 of them fell apart during assembly. The plastic is too brittle and in one instance, the pieces just didn't lock up with each other, properly.
Each torch comes in three pieces. I would have thought they would have fit together snugly without glue, but it was a loose fit. Glued together fine with Loctite Super Glue. Love using them for D&D play! Great for keeping track of who is using torches and for locating light sources. Highly recommended unless you don't want to do any assembly!
