This was a page-turner for me, with a bit of everything - heroically struggling farm girl, hunky city-slicker hero, goodies and baddies, cops & robbers (of sorts) and many touches of humorous dialogue. The black moment was a tad unconvincing, but the final crisis was dramatic. Overall I very much enjoyed this book from an Australian author I haven't read before.
Thank you Sarah Barrie for a real, mostly believable story that had me captured from the start. I loved the sassy nature of Jordy and the story line was a true account of station life, with a bit of mystery and intrigue thrown in, with an ending that while I was disappointed with it not being harder for the baddie, it was real life. Hope to read another one from you soon. Cheers
4.5 stars Whoever said small towns have no secrets didn't know about this one... Just finished this fabulous book by Sarah Barrie and I have to say there were plenty of covered up secrets - at times I had to slow down and read passages again to keep up with the story - and isn't that the truth with secrets? One little fib becomes a whole twisted ball of yarn and when it begins to unravel, everything falls apart. And this is exactly what this story is all about - unravelled secrets. This is a book full of twists and turns that you don't see coming. It's also full of some some truly awful (as in 'not nice') characters. The ending was unexpected and full of tension. Definitely not for the faint hearted reader looking for a sweet rural romance. Spoiler: If you don't like seeing your hero and heroine get badly hurt, you might struggle with some scenes at the end but they all live happily ever after! Thank God for Mack! I loved Jordan and Reid and although I was sometimes frustrated by Reid's alpha male dominance, I think he was the perfect match for the very feisty and at times foul mouthed Jordan. The sexual tension between them had me turning pages on my Kindle faster and faster (a good thing!). Well done Sarah - I thoroughly enjoyed reading your book and am glad I moved it higher up my To Be Read pile. Please tell me Madi and Matt's story will be next! :)
This is one of the best books I've read recently. It's well written I loved the humour between the characters. I laughed, was sad and then even mad but thoroughly enjoyed the ride. I will look out for other books from this author.
Truly enjoyed this novel. It had a little bit of everything. Romance, intrigue, relationships, intrigue and the tension the author created was of a high level. No, I am not going to say anything about the story except to say it was the first book in ages that had me reading past midnight. Lucky I was on Christmas holidays.
