To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I just ordered my own from Amazon today so I am assuming the quality will be the same as every other Splendor I've played. If not, I will update, but this game is SO fun!! My brother introduced me to it a couple weeks ago and we played this for hours, just the two of us. Not too many 2-4 player games that are actually still fun with only 2 people. I've played this game at several people's houses at this point and had to buy it for myself! Great strategy game that is fun for the very intellectual but straight forward enough for tweens to play too. A new family favorite sure!
I bought this because online review sites recommended it as a really fine game and it made pretty much every top 10 card game list I found.
I think they underegged it.
This is a truly elegant game. So simple, so accessible and yet so many strategies and potential outcomes.
Additionally, the coins have weight and heft, like decent poker chips and are a pleasure to use (and got me stopped at customs when we went on holiday because the scanners flagged me as smuggling money).
Look, just buy the game. It's awesome and you'll love it.
Brilliant game reminds me a little bit of Jaipur card game though that's a two player this is up to four players.
What's really outstanding is the lovely heavy jewel tokens. Plus the bright colourful cards .
So far only played this game with my daughter who is 9 and has so far beaten me on every game we have played.
Really nice strategy needed to atract the nobles that give you the extra prestige points. Is a little frustrating that when you just feel your getting in the flow of things someone reaches the 15 prestige points and the game is over. As someone else has said on the reviews you can just decide to go to 20 points to keep it going.
Would highly recommend this game very enjoyable and a worthy addition to anyone's game collection.
Have you ever wanted to play a game that simulated the cut and thrust of being a precious gem magnet? No? Neither had I until I played Splendor.
The game is quick (30mins per game) and varied enough for multiple strategies to win and for each game to be slightly different. There is some maths at play, but its all pretty easy stuff and you can play this game with people of all ages, skill sets and gaming backgrounds.
The beauty of the game is that the mechanics themselves are simple, but there is decent scope for strategy, methods and gameplans that add a challenge to the game.
The game is well made, and the box is actually structured so it holds everything in a dedicated place.
This game is excellent! I had an amazon voucher for my birthday recently so decided to buy a new board game. I’ve a few on my wish list, but wanted something that would be good for two players and saw this mentioned a few places online as being a good option, so thought I’d get it and see. I am so glad I did!
When the game arrived, my husband read the blurb on the box, and said it sounded really boring, so I was worried it wouldn’t be enjoyed. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Splendor is a simple enough game, you get gem tokens and buy cards, thereby increasing your number of gems to buy more cards and gaining prestige. It doesn’t sound all that thrilling, but there is something so fun and enjoyable about the game, you just find yourself wanting to play again and again!
I agree with some reviews that the end point of 15 points can feel a bit like stopping when you’re just getting started. We’ve tried ignoring that and playing until all the cards are gone and counting total points, or picking a higher number “end point” eg 25 instead. So depending on what you fancy you can play things a little differently. We’ve also tried dealing out a couple of the low level cards at the start as well, when playing with our children, which helps to get the game going a bit more quickly.
Overall I can’t recommend this game enough, it’s so much fun, and really reasonably priced. Buy it, you won’t regret it!
Bought this as a Christmas present for my husband as we wanted more games for 2 people. This is perfect as it can be played with up to four too so it's versatile. The tiles feel really nice and the cards are very pretty. The game itself is very simple but there are lots of tactics you can use to help win so it keeps you thinking and engaged. Overall it takes about 45 minutes to play which is perfect for us. I'd highly recommend this. I don't play a lot of games and I found this easy to learn but my husband (who loves complicated games) can get enough from it too that he really enjoys it also.
