Wondeful Book about an Amazing Man !
2 July 2014
The book is a must read for perspectives on WWI
The book left us with a few questions.
1. It seems that Lawrence was dedicate to Arab's Sunni wishes and one has to wonder of his views of Shia and Kurdish expectations. I am sure Lawrence would not have been indifferent to these expectations. It will be a worthy reflection for the next book!
2. The story was not exactly Francophile and quite possibly neither was Lawrence. But it is to be admitted that the French had had an abiding presence in the region since the crusades and no doubt the fear Christians have had in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq would have influenced French interest.
3. The book makes no secret of English interests: Oil. French interests may have been less avaricious.
It would be an agony for Lawrence to see present day problems. The book is an education.
