I really liked the storyline set in the 1940s, although it was quite a sad story actually. It reminded me a lot of Ian McEwan's 'Atonement', but it was different enough not to feel too imitative. I also liked the storyline set in the present - that is, I liked JT's genealogical search and his gradual uncovering of the events in the past. However, the modern-day murder mystery part was not quite as convincing.
