I have taken quite a while reading this book and dipping into it every now and again. It's an interesting book with lots of descriptions of country life, aspects of living in a village,of the people and customs. If you are interested in the country year's cycle then this is a good book to start with. It's well written,as one would expect from this author and full of useful information. Recommended.
Major problems. Received a book clean and looking fairly new but clearly no-one at the Store has opened it. On turning each page, it comes loose. So I have a"book" consisting of some 200 pages of loose pages!!! Would have returned it but needed it immediately for my book group. Have never before had a problem with the used book option: till now consistently good. Content of the book - as hoped - magical writing!
My all-time favourite 'comfort book'. I cannot remember how many times I've read it but I've had to buy at least one new copy because the book dropped to pieces with being read so much! Susan Hill's reflections on a year in her life at Moon Cottage is not sentimental but is a delight for anyone who enjoys the countryside and takes pleasure from the simple life. Perfect book.
What a joy to read. Susan Hill's book about her life and how she adapts to the seasons is a firm favourite to read over and over or just to dip into. Her prose is lyrical and the picture she paints of adapting to a simple country life is both practical and also the stuff of daydreams about getting away from it all. The occasional recipe is an unexpected bonus. I thoroughly recommend this beautiful book
