Best clarification of this excellent tool around. Covers the philosophy and principles as well as the detail of implementation with amazing clarity. It's fabulous to have such clarity on the use of this tool for the service sector in particular. My only criticism is that the authors really emphasise the importance of ideal practices. However, the realities for many improvement professionals are far from ideal. Some advice on how to manage such situations would have been very valuable.
This book covers some of theory behind VSM and also provides practical examples and templates. Having said that it isn't exactly easy to read and the text, in my opinion, spends too much time on the writer's views and talents and not enough helping the reader. I would still buy it to understand the theory but also look for an experienced helper if you are considering implementing this.
Agree with another review about this book being light on content and most parts seemed like fluff. I didn't get much value with this book. Maybe I should have mapped the value stream before reading it. Not worth the money spent.
I found this book to be a good balance between between intellectually satisfy and practical, its also being easy to read. It’s already significantly altered the way that I look at my own organisation and the bit of it I manage
