Watch the series & read the book!

This book and tv series has left me at a loss for the past week since completing them.
I think perhaps my viewing of the television series before venturing into this book helped!
The tv series was very plot driven and so I was very immersed in the storyline and since it was told in such a back and forth on the timeline style, while we knew the probable fate of baby Noah, we had to wait for the circumstances to become unveiled.
The book on the other hand, was a different experience. I found the book then allowed me to delve deeper into the characters and roll along with the story since I knew the outcome. I’ve read a handful of reviews about the main characters being unliveable in many different ways....and this I believe is the intent! This is a horrific time, and it’s showing these people are at this time in their lives terrible people. We aren’t supposed to like them. It’s showing us the terrible sides of humans that can be brought out in terrible circumstances.
I noticed a few reviews critique the pacing and say it has a feel of going on and on. Normally I cannot deal with slower paced stories. This is where again, I think seeing the TV series helped as I knew what would happen and so I wasn’t as impatient. Which led me to the feeling that this was again, an intentional writing decision. The story feels like it’s going on and on and we can get off this same track, much like the characters cannot get off the triangle.
