Feel so meh about this book. It's taken me more than two months to finish, and I'm used to starting a book and finishing it within 24 hours.
I didn't like the H, Derek for the longest time. Too cynical. I loved Diana, but she should have been more firm and resistant to Derek and his macho attitude. That's why I gave up the book for awhile, thinking I would go right back to it, but I didn't.
I liked the second half much better, although I guessed who the bad guy was, and felt the part of the story where he was caught and dealt with was way too short and wrapped up.
I also felt there was too much filler with descriptions and pointless details.
It was a good book. I liked it, and it kept me interested. There was still a little something missing for me, which is why I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 star rating. I can't really say what it was that was missing. Maybe I felt that they changed their mind too quickly about marriage. Especially Derek. And I find it hard to believe that Giles left Diana a virgin. I also figured out who the bad guy was before they revealed it. Those things do not usually bother me, so guessing there was still just a little bit more I was looking for in the book. The next book I will read of hers will be Intimate Betrayal. Even though she wrote that book second it is actually the story of Morgan and Alyssa who are already together in this book.
This was the second book of hers I have read. I read "How to Be a Scottish Mistress" first and loved that book.
This story is about a young widow who was fraudulent marry to a man that after her marriage he marry with other woman. I really like the author Mrs basso but this was different from others books. I always gave her 4 stars but this one was different.
This was too much about nothing. I dont read historical romances to read what his superfine jacket was made of wool or whatever. I believe she made too much of their clothing in order to lengthen her book..no more of her for me
A light romance novel with a difference from the more usual romance plots, I enjoyed Notorious Deception. The heroine is well portrayed although how she can forgive her hero for some of his behavour so easily is a bit beyond me! This is a very early book by Basso and hasn't the depth of writing of some of her other works, although she paints a very effective nasty villain!
