I’ve owned many mechanical pencils over the years and this one is by far the best. I’m an artist and use these for sketching out my ideas before going over in ink.
- Perfect weight and feel in the hand. - The long tip helps keep the bulk of the pencil out of the way when drawing. - Strong build quality. All metal (except for the eraser cap). Should last many years.
The downside is that they’re expensive, even if they are worth it. So owning a few for different sized leads just isn’t possible for most peopke.
If you need more options, I highly suggest getting a 0.5 (or whatever you prefer) for the bulk of your work, and a larger lead holder for everything else. That should cover you for most applications.
After getting one of these you'll never need to buy another one again. Buy it for life. They're that good.
As per the general concensus of this pencil it has a very solid feeling, well made with rotrings high quality control. It is a little heavy for my liking and I use a fairly tight grip and get fatigue after a short period using this. The exposed lead sleeve is very good for precision and view
Simply amazing! The weighty feel of the pencil just makes the writing experience all the better and I can really see myself using this pencil for a lifetime. It really does feel like quality and luxury when using it. The grip is very interesting, I thought it would feel harsh and abrasive but it's the complete opposite and it definitely works. I especially love the aesthetic of the rOtring too, I have yet to see another pencil that looks as sleek, classic but modern and as gorgeous as this design. No pen has impressed me aesthetically since my Petrol Ink Lamy Safari or any of those from that range. I do feel that the lead pencil metal tip is a bit exposed and vulnerable, I've heard people having it snap on them when throwing it in their bag carelessly rendering the pencil unusable, so keep that in mind. I know the 800 version makes it retractable though. I'm definitely eyeing the ballpoint pen version of this now!
These rOtring mechanical pencils just feel special. The shape, the weight are all perfect for me. I keep it with a good notebook beside me all the time. I mostly use for simple notes and doodles. I like good wooden pencils but this wins for me.
