Top positive review
excellent cross-section of the ways we beat ourselves up

An excellent collection of some patients Grosz worked with throughout his time as a psycho-analyst.
The people Grosz worked with run the full gamut of issues being dealt with, and the choices included here show a great variety of the ways in which we struggle with our emotions and thinking processes. From children with social difficulties and adults who think their sexuality is constantly changing, to older people with chronic illnesses struggling to make sense of their life, Grosz helps them all to varying degrees of success.
I listened to this audiobook read by Peter Marinker, whose mature and rhythmic voice lends itself perfectly to a psychologist recounting the tales of their practice. His style is warm and inviting while remaining engaging and interesting.
I really enjoyed hearing about all the ways we as people compartmentalise our experiences and avoid dealing with negative experiences. We really are complex animals who spend as much time thinking about what we've done as actually doing it.
A fantastic read/listen!
