I used to have this book in hardback years ago. It still brings up the same sense of delight. Peter David is one of those authors that captures you from the first sentence, he weaves such a good tale you can't help but keep reading. If you're a fan of Star Trek, this provides the perfect insight into Riker and Troi.
Reads like bad fanfiction - lots of inconsistencies with the series and a totally unrealistic and contradicted portrayal of the relationship between Riker and Troi. Simply not the same characters, and certainly not the same dynamic. Thus, I would not recommend this to any true fans of this couple.
However, the story is certainly engaging, and I'm sure that if all the proper nouns were changed and star-trek lingo removed it would make for an enjoyable read.
PERFECT!!! This is perfct for those who love the whole star trek tng series. First book Ive read by peter David and words cant describe how much I loved this book. The book is about how Will and Deanna met when they were younger and how their relationship developed, also explains why Deanna and Lwaxana (mother) have some problems. Great on how the whole romance appeared :)
Loved the descriptions of Star Trek: Next Generation characters, felt like it could have actually been part of the TV series. Enjoyed the background to Troi and Riker's relationship and am looking forward to reading Imzadi Part II, which is hopefully set aboard the Enterprise, unlike the majority of this book. Would have perhaps liked to have seen more of the TV series characters to see where they would have been in the future e.g. Worf, La Forge etc. But that's really my only complaint!
