I'm not sure what makes this book stand above similar romances. Sure the plot is well developed as are the characters, but other good GR writers authors do this too. I think the magic ingredient is the entertaining universe of Spinster Cove and its lively residents. It just adds an element of fun that makes this an excellent read.
Corporal Thorne was an intimidating character in previous Spindle Cove books. Now we discover his poignant back story. He and Kate, the village piano teacher have a shared past, one he wants to conceal. Thorne's bad manners irritate Kate and she dislikes him. A lot. Then one day he rescues her from harm and there is a puppy involved. All impossible to resist for warm hearted orphan Kate Taylor. The grumpy guy meets fluffy girl theme is so funny, it produces a very entertaining read.
