if you enjoy reading of sailing with echoes of classical tales and poems, or you like small boat adventure, this book is a top read. the narrative is light on specific sailing or navigational detail eg. sailed 23 miles on a northeast heading into the town of dubrovnic or whatever. but its heavily flavoured with snippets from classical literature tales, poems etc as well as from childrens literature. a wonderful tale of small boat adventure.
it also provides opportunities to draft out similar smaller sojourns in your local waterways that dinghy sailing, alone, can only provide.
wonderfully written- His story showed that people all along the way were still good decent people. Just when you think there is no more caring or humanity left in the world you read a story like this. If only I had the courage he showed and just took off into the wild blue yonder. What fun.
What an adventure!! I love his writing style and the quirky people he met on the way. It was very interesting for me because we had recently been on the canals around Bath and up and down the Caen locks and along sections of the Danube so I was visualizing it and looking at photos. An interesting, funny and entertaining read !!
Wonderfull writing style with just enough humour. I felt i'd been aboard for the whole ride. Vivid word pictures brought the varied landscapes and people right into my life and I will revisit this reading experience again and again.
