A very good description of noble life in England in the 14th century. Weir writes well, but had to resort to inference from records to establish aspects of Katherine Swynford's life as there was often little explicit detail about her.
Very interesting to see the build up of the events that would 50 years later lead to the Wars of the Roses
I didn't know much about this incredible lady apart from the fact that her name seems to crop up in multiple family trees. The wonderful Alison Weir has brought her alive for me and I now intend to visit her tomb in Lincoln Cathedral. Terrific story, terrific figure and terrific writer.
