This is an extraordinary book that looks at the humble cod as a major factor in world history. I know that sounds lile a slightly odd sentence but the reality is that through Mark Kurlanskys writing I came to understand world dynamics to a level that I had not before. This is not a simple history of a fish but how access to a resource made and eventually broke countries and empires. It is also a tale of how if we continue to squander resources that are not infinite, then we lose the power that access to those resources give us. Great book and 'Salt' his other great book is also well worth reading.
