There are many books written about living in France - particularly Provence. There is no doubt that dealing with a move to this part of France, in particular, provides abundant material for any author. As many of us dream about living in Provence such a title as this one offered the prospect of much enjoyment. It offered much but delivered little.
Unfortunately I had to give up on this book. The author simply lacked good writing skills. Her sentences were unduly long and confusing and it appeared that little revision of the text had been made. The author should have considered her readers more. Many of her sentences wandered all over the place. I became annoyed and fed up and as I have many other books on my "to read" list I decided not to waste any more of my time.
An incredibly entertaining read that made me laugh out loud on multiple occasions. Not only is this book rich with interesting cultural observations, but the way Jean relates to everything around her is charming and witty. This is the perfect book for any time of year, to be read in any location, and any mindset. An absolute gem. And I can't publish this review without saying that I particularly enjoyed the chapter entitled, "Interesting Things to do in a Bath". :-D
