I found it quite an ordeal to read this 500+ page book. I didn't like the main character Rachel and felt quite frustrated at the entrenchment of her denial - this part of the storyline dominated two thirds of the book. I'm glad I persevered though because I could see that the things I didn't like about her was part of her addicted self. Eventually, she does come to a more accurate perception and acceptance of her reality and I enjoyed the story from there (maybe that says a lot about me!) I thought it was a well written and descriptive book. It gave me a small insight into narcotic addiction and how difficult it is to recover and not to relapse.
