There are two different books sold under almost same title here. I bought both. Accidentally. Hence my discovery. Both books by Venerable Fulton Sheen. If you choose a paperback version you would be buying "THE life of Christ" ( 1954) a little book with 5 chapters ( Early Life of Christ, Temptetions, The Beatitudes, Public Life and Passion, Death and Resurection) and 96 pages and it costs just over 4 quid however if you go to the kindle version and purchase "Life of Christ" ( 1958) and here is where you grab yourself a true gem for less than 50 pence ( bargain! Buy it. Do not hesitate) The well known classic by the very same Venerable Archbishop Sheen with 62 chapters ( from chapter One - The Only Person Ever Pre Announced to chapter 62 - Christ takes on a New Body ) on almost 700 pages. I know it is confusing but it is what it is. These are two different books by the same author ( both excellent) however "The Life of Christ" is more of a booklet to carry around in your bag, comes handy when you pray in front of the Blessed Sacrament or hold a prayer meeting/ have a meditation group while "Life of Christ" is more an addition to your Bible which you should keep it by your bedside, treasure it and read it daily. Coming back to it. Overall (two) great book(-s) .
This wonderful book is worth the money alone for Fulton Sheen's interpretation of the seven words from the cross. He explains in his own insightful inspiring and very poignant way, the meaning of Christs words, as he slowly gave up his life. The words between Christ and the good thief are particularly moving. I keep this book by my bedside, it is well used.
I found this book among my late father's effects. I have read it twice over the last couple of years and can only say that it opened up my understanding of the New Testament and some prophesies of the old testament. Although I have been a church attender all my life (over 60yrs) it was like moving from black and white TV to High Definition. The purpose of Christ's life and the explanation of things in the gospels which I have never even noticed were there were truly mindblowing. I use the book on a weekly basis where there are references in it to the relevant Sunday gospel readings. I intend to buy copies for all my grandchildren when they are confirmed because I feel that would be an ideal time for them to become acquainted a book of this inspirational quality.
Excellent book and service. This book analyses key aspects of Jesus' life and lays it out straight for the lay person. The rich symbolism of the baptism of Jesus for example is clearly and very deeply explained. Our lords agony in the garden is set out scene by scene. I wish priests would educate in their sermons the way Fulton Sheen does in this book. A book to be reread. This book is brilliant. Buy it.
