I accidentally ordered the 3.5 inch. It's amazing, solid, heavy and well made, but can probably only fry a piece of garlic in it at a time(My fault for not checking). I may keep it next to my bed and use it as a weapon if necessary, or hang it on the wall as an ornament.
When it first arrived I was a bit concerned with the course sandpaper texture of the pan but washed and gave it a quick season in the oven and it worked great. However, I am impatient and couldn't wait for the seasoning to build up so I sanded the inside of the pan, seasoned it several times in the oven before use and now I would say it ranks up their with the best non stick pans on the market.
Absolutely fantastic pan. Having never used cast iron to cook before, I was hestitant after reading about all the "extra" maintenance requirements for cast iron. But I took the chance anyway and purchased one off of Amazon and have never looked backed. Steaks have never tasted better than they being cooked on this pan. It being cast iron, it can also be used in the oven or on a charcoal BBQ. So it is super versatile and it cooks so evenly. The preseasoning on all Lodgeware is amazing and so easy to maintain.
This is my second Lodge skillet, my other being a large 12" model. This one is perfect for omelettes, fried eggs, pancakes, and many other dishes. The seasoning was surprisingly good out of the box and has only improved over the weeks I've been cooking with it. I use my skillets typically twice to three times a day, so they get a lot of usage, both on the stove, and in the oven. These pans handle anything you can throw at them, with a developed seasoning are virtually non-stick, and they are built like a tank. Whilst I've only got the two skillets so far, I know I'm going to continue replacing my other cookware when the time comes for cast iron.
A nice contrast to the larger size is that this skillet is quite light and easy to move around. But this also means that the pan can heat up very quickly, so you do have to be a bit more mindful of what you are doing. Apart from that though, a good wipe out with a clean cloth after cooking, some lard or tallow to lightly coat and protect it, and it's shiny, smooth and ready to go for the next meal.
I looked at this same pan from Kitchen Warehouse and it was going to cost almost $80 AUD as apposed to under $25 from here, I purchased the lid with it too. Shipping was really fast considering it was coming from the US it was here in about a week. This was my first time using a cast iron pan, but I love it, use it at home and to take camping. Well worth it.
Two adults + three teenagers means we go through a LOT of food. Cooking up big is a financial necessity! This pan makes it easy and fun. Well, easy except for the lifting - it's a BEAST. Huge, and cooks food beautifully. Would have given it 5 stars if it came with a lid - but realised only after I bought it that the lid is sold separately (or in combination for even better value). Food tastes wonderful.
This is my first cast iron skillet and I'm very happy with the quality (made in USA), still learning to how to take proper care of it in terms of seasoning etc. This thing is also really heavy so care is needed if you're using it best to use both hands.
Holy Crap .. this thing is awesome. always wondered about PUBG mechanics.. but im telling you. this could easily deflect multiple bullets and most definitely could kill someone. Be sure to google cast iron prep and maintenance and you will have a pan useful for both murder, self defence and cooking amazing steaks and salmon.
I’m new to cast iron skillets and haven’t had great pans in the past. This seals meat gorgeously and cooks it evenly. I’m absolutely obsessed. I seasoned my pan with canola oil even thought the pan itself is preseasoned. Such a great value, considering it almost double the price on other Australian sites and prime gives free shipping!
