This is a wonderfully eye opening series told from a teenager's point of view. The hidden domestic side of war. The series is a must read, not only for teenagers, but also for those wishing to learn a bit more about life in the middle east during our war torn epoch. I wouldn't say it is a comfortable read as it is, at times, quite confronting. First introduced to the series as a classroom novel for lower secondary students I felt compelled to read the whole series to find out what happens to this young woman and her reactions to the heartbreaks and triumphs of her life.
I read this book for a school assignment more than 10 years ago and thought it was such a powerful well written story that I kept the book for years until it was unfortunately destroyed in a flood. I have spent the past 5 years searching for this book to have finally stumbled across it today and i'm so thrilled to discover it's a part of a series instead of the standalone novel I always thought it was!
