This is the 11th in the DI Hillary Greene Series, and they are all just wonderful reads. Police procedurals with humour and mystery thrown in the mix. Great reading - not deeply involving and yet not light reading either - just short snappy stories told well. I think this series would definitely be best read in sequence, as Hilliary goes through the throes of solving murders and training her team. She makes solid friends, builds a core of loyal supporters, and also gathers those who will go to great lengths to see her fall from grace. Each book builds on the last, and the series has quite a few background stories going as well.
I have now read all the eleven "Murder" series and enjoyed them all.. and at the end of this Hillary sails off into the sunset retired from Thames Valley Police having solved the case and one or two surprises.. but my Kindle says books 12-17 coming soon..!!!! I have four books on my Kindle I have read of the "Narrow" series where Hillary has left the police and is now a consultant but unfortunately although I bought the first 4 in the "Narrow" on Amazon for my Kindle they seem to have disappeared from the Amazon website ..!!!!!..
Excellent structure of the story by being engrossing, entertaining and somewhat bewildering as there are many twists and turns that make guessing the ending almost impossible. Faith writes with such a colorful phrase that I am forming in my mind the beautiful Oxford locations that she describes. The characters are structured realistically in a way that makes them believable.
The victim is an unsavory type of person. Not liked by anyone. But Hilary still has to solve the murder. An old foe pops up. Unscrupulous as ever and as unfriendly as he ever could be. But he will not stop Hilary from getting to the bottom of this murder, or the robberies connected to the place of the murder.
Back in form... good story. Faith Martin didn't extol Hillary's virtues as much in this book and it was a better read for it. And I do think, this far into the series Murder/Narrow, it is time to drop some of the oft repeated details of Hillary's past.. her corrupt ex husband, irritating Frank, etc. But having said that, Murder at Work is a good read and quite enjoyable.
I have read all the series that are currently available on ebook. The characters are believable, the twists are often unexpected and I usually don't know "who done it" until the author wants me to. I recommend this series to all those who enjoy crime fiction that is not too dark or graphic.
The books are hard to put down and I've reached the end of this one quickly. This had a really good plot line with a couple of side events occurring. It's easy reading and very enjoyable. I'll be looking for the next one to read
A fast moving murder tale with lots of action, twists and turns that engage the reader. Well drawn characters add to interest in this murder/revenge mystery. Conclusion is what Hillary, main character does so well ..solves the murder mystery!
