If you are a classic horror film or horror novel lover you will devour A HEAD FULL OF GHOSTS like The Thing does foreign DNA, taking over your consious (& subconsious) thought.
Deciding to whatc on the surface looks like a reinterpretation of The Exorcist in the age of Paraanormal Activity & reality tv, is a bold move.
Bolder still to entwine multiple unreliabe narrators and the traditional themes of female pubescence & burgeoning sexuality ; with modern dayc politics and religious posturing.
With countless hat tips to some of the great horror writersxand films, , Tremblay crafts a genuinely unnerving tale of family dysfunction, creeping madness & manipulation.
Make sure you read the author notes at the back! I find it interesting that one of the lead characters shares a name with one of the important characters in his favourite horror films: Session 9. (and maybe a trait?) I don't think The Thing was the only film on his mind.
Wow! What an incredible story, it had me from start to finish. I haven’t read Paul’s books before but am very interested in reading more. I couldn’t guess what was going to happen the storyline was so well written as were the characters, the ending was unexpected, and for me, well what really happened ?
This is a cool, creepy little play on the possession trope. Filled with believable characters, pop culture references and enough tension, doubt and mystery for some genuinely intense moments. This is the second Tremblay book I’ve read and enjoyed and it will not be the last.
This is one of my favourite recent books and I still think about it regularly. I found it to be equal parts creepy and thoughtful. An unreliable narrator leaves you feeling disoriented but with an emotional payoff. Would recommend for anyone interested in Gothic literature or modern horror.
Amazing book keeps you wanting to know what happens next. And for me it was terrifying, exciting and terrifying due to his descriptive writing and detailed scenes. Thank you very much Paul for your entertainment
