There is a heavy emphasis on eating native fauna but we have an amazing array of native flora which is only just touched upon. The 7 spice recipe obviously features some of them. Having spent the past 10 years sourcing ingredients I was a little disappointed with the recipes but I applaud the book's purpose and historical content.
Taste Australia Bush Food Shop has over 40 different ingredients which are perfect for flavouring regular cuts of meat rather than our wildlife.
What a rich insight into Aboriginal attitudes to land and harvesting. As a keen gardener with an interest in bush tucker and Aboriginal medicine plants this was an eye opener. Great recipes too! Highly recommended.
Highly informative book that communicates the untapped potential of Australian native cuisine as well as the shameful obstacles that ignorance and racism play in Australia's celebration of Indigenous knowledge and nature's bounty.
Also includes useful resources - such as recipes and producers - for those looking to incorporate these foods into their cooking. Most of these recipes are, admittedly, quite advanced as they come from professional chefs.
