Provided firm and compassionate guidance and lessons on self-help for those with an inadequate emotional education in childhood. I found it highly useful and also felt my self-compassion, self-awareness and emotional intelligence were improved as a result of reading and applying lessons in this book.
Finally this book provided me with answers I've questioned my whole life, why i am the way i am? Why cant i move past things, and better myself.. My upbringing wasn't easy, and my fathers abuse towards me was not always obvious, this explains his behaviour well.
An amazing book that quite literally changed not only my life but probably my children's and grandchildren's as well. It has had an effect on the way I interact with the entire world, but most importantly, it has changed the way I see myself - very much for the better. Thank you Dr. Webb.
This book is for the emotionally neglected and therapists. It provides an overall perspective that enables identification and suggestions for healing. As a retired therapist I wholeheartedly recommend it.
All of my childhood is explained in this book. Nobody ever asked me how I felt and what I wanted. Things that didn't happen in my childhood and youth, like feeling respected and loved, or even acknowledged at all led to this overall feeling of not being allowed to be. No wonder I turned out the way I am. I tell myself I don't need anything or anybody. Of course this isn't true. I now know why I have feelings of self-annihilation and can start improving my life by doing the exercises in this book.I am what I am but i can improve!
